The famous Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled new fifth-generation Tucson in South Korea. The new 2027 Hyundai Tucson aims to enter global markets as a 2027 model, the new Tucson marks a major departure from its predecessor taking on a much more upright and boxy SUV profile. The new car comes with a completely redesigned exterior as Hyundai has also revamped the cabin and increased the dimensions to improve passenger and luggage space.

Key Highlights:

  • Next-gen Hyundai Tucson could return to India
  • Bold, boxier SUV design
  • New premium-looking interior
  • Large 17-inch infotainment screen
  • Hybrid powertrain expected
  • Bigger dimensions and more cabin space
  • New Tucson XRT variant also revealed

New 2027 Hyundai Tucson: Design

The current Tucson is known for its distinctive parametric design, sharp creases and integrated lighting elements. With the 5th generation model Hyundai has taken a new approach. The new Tucson follows the brand’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ philosophy giving it a more rugged and squared off SUV appearance.

Up front there is a wide horizontal LED light bar stretching across the vehicle flanked by vertically oriented lighting elements at both end. The bonnet is wider and sits higher, while the bumper gets a layered design with a large lower air intake and contrasting silver elements.

The transformation is even more obvious from the side. The new Tucson gets almost vertical front and rear sections, squared off wheel arches and sharply defined body panels. A contrasting section around the C-pillar adds some separation between the roof and the body.

At the rear Hyundai has added another full-width LED light bar connecting the vertically oriented tail lamps. TUCSON lettering runs across the tailgate, while the chunky rear bumper continues the SUV’s more rugged design theme.

Bigger Than Before

The new Tucson measures 4,700 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width and 1,685 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm. Compared to the current model the overall length has increased by 60 mm while the wheelbase is 30 mm longer. The width has also grown by 40 mm.

The larger dimensions has been increased considering more room inside. Hyundai says second-row headroom has increased by 29 mm. The rear doors can now open up to 83 degrees compared to 73 degrees previously making it easier to get in and out.

2027 Hyundai Tucson: Interior

The changes inside are just as substantial. Rather than the integrated dual-screen setup seen on several recent Hyundai models the new Tucson gets a large portrait oriented central touchscreen. It runs Hyundai’s latest Pleos infotainment interface and takes centre stage on the dashboard.

A separate slim digital display placed high in front of the driver while the new two-spoke steering wheel gets a distinctive squared-off design. Hyundai has also adopted a floating-style centre console, creating additional storage space underneath.

The dashboard has a clean horizontal layout, with ambient lighting extending across the cabin. Other features confirmed for the Korean market include dual wireless smartphone charging and multiple interior colour combinations.

New Tucson XRT Also Revealed

Hyundai has also unveiled an XRT version of the Tucson with a more rugged SUV look. It gets an exclusive rectangular-pattern grille a wider skid plate treatment, black wheel arch cladding and XRT-specific alloy wheels.

The changes continue at the rear where the XRT gets a unique bumper and skid plate design. Inside it features exclusive patterned seats and protective floor mats while touch-sensitive LED lighting is integrated into the tailgate for outdoor use.

2027 Hyundai Tucson: Powertrain

Hyundai has not revealed the complete engine and platform specifications yet. However the new Tucson is expected to continue with a petrol-diesel and electrified powertrains depending on the market.

An updated version of Hyundai’s 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain is expected to be among the key options. Petrol and plug-in hybrid versions could also continue in selected markets. More details on power output fuel efficiency and drivetrain combinations are likely to be announced closer to the market launch.

For India Hyundai has not yet announced plans for the fifth-generation Tucson. If the new-generation model does make its way here it will bring a substantially different design larger dimensions and a more technology-focused cabin compared to the outgoing SUV.

New Design Direction Could Influence Next-Gen Creta

Hyundai plans to be moving towards a more upright and boxy design language with its latest-generation models. Elements of this approach have already been seen on the new Elantra and the fifth-generation Tucson takes it further with its squared proportions prominent wheel arches and strong horizontal lighting signatures.

This design direction could also influence the upcoming next-generation Hyundai Creta. The new-gen Creta is expected to make its India debut in early 2027 and given Hyundai’s evolving global design language it could adopt some of the sharper and more upright styling cues seen on the new Tucson.

The two SUVs will continue to have their own identities but the new 2027 Hyundai Tucson offers an early indication of where Hyundai’s SUV design philosophy could be headed.
